Did you over-indulge during the holidays? If not, maybe you slipped a bit on your regular workout routine? Perhaps you are one of the millions who have decided to add weight loss and exercise to your list of New Year's resolutions? Whatever your reasons for considering some additional exercise, one of your best workout options is the use of treadmills.

Today's consumers are very fortunate in the fact that they have an overabundance of choices where treadmills are concerned. There are slim, collapsible models that can be used for a quick workout in someone's living room, and then there are the full-blown professional-quality models that can be programmed with routines and track an individual's progress.

Which is the right one for you? Well, that boils down to a few different issues. The most common guiding factors in the decision making process for those looking to buy treadmills are the actual ease of use, the storage capabilities of the machines, and the total cost. Additionally, many consumers are torn between manual and electronic treadmills, especially because the better manufacturers can offer all kinds of advanced features on their manual machines.

If we look first at the ease of use, we would be considering things like built-in programs, adjustable inclines and tension, and even such things as folding or collapsing capabilities. Where programs are concerned, most beginners tend to get very confused by all of the buttons and knobs on a gym-quality machine, and this can lead them to avoid some very beneficial features. This means that the shopper should really consider whether they want a machine that will fundamentally guide them through the workout, or if they are comfortable keeping things very simple and doing all of the adjustments on their own.

Which is the best for a post-holiday workout? If we consider that most of the popular twenty-minute exercise programs ask the individual to adjust their MPH (miles per hour) and the incline level around twenty times during the routine it is easy to see that the automatic machines are the most desirable. In fact, many can be pre-programmed with the exact regimen preferred.

If this is the case then the next factor is the cost, and here too there are a wide range of options. There are standard consumer and gym-quality models available, and it helps if the shopper looks for some feedback or opinions from those using each brand or model on a regular basis. The Internet is a great place to do 'comparison shopping' and can also point a buyer to the best prices.
